UK Charts - Dead Island Riptide is the New Number One

Added: 29.04.2013 10:17 | 14 views | 0 comments

GodisaGeek: "It seems that the UK game buying public has spoken: Dead Island Riptide was the most popular game released last week, because as per usual, the best selling new game has taken the top spot in the UK charts. Outselling Star Trek (3rd place), Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen (doesnt make the top 40), and the long awaited (in some cases) re-release of cult classic Deadly Premonition: Directors Cut (27th place), publisher Deep Silver will be pretty happy."

But opening week sales are less than half that of the original.

But despite Riptide's success at the top of the charts, the zombie slaying sequel only managed to sell less than half the amount the original sold during its first week on sale in September 2011.

The Xbox 360 version accounted for 71 per cent of Riptide's total sales, with the remaining 29 per cent split between PC and PS3.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen enters the chart at No. 3, with abysmal movie spin-off Star Trek shooting in at No. 4.

Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen is not a DLC. No, although you would be forgiven for thinking so, given Capcoms rather convoluted and muddled pre-release publicity for the title, but Dark Arisen asks you to recall the time before digital downloads when expansion scale content was released in physical form only.

Last year was pretty good to us as far as RPGs go. Among multiple pedigree releases in the genre, we saw the emergence of Capcoms new Monster Hunter Dark Souls lovechild, Dragons Dogma. And what a lovechild it was! Upon venturing into the expansive and gorgeous (albeit slightly unoriginal) land of Gransys, players were met with an astonishing mixture of visceral combat, unforgiving difficulty and brilliant open ended exploration. Player-created party members, combo based swordplay and an intricate game world came together with these to produce a sharp, but extremely rewarding difficulty curve that drove players to constantly be on edge during exploration.
